Abbreviations (US Terms):
Ch – chain
Hdc - half double crochet
Fo – fasten off
St – stitch
Sl st – slip stitch
Instructions for adult size hat:
Ch 63 loosely (or the required chains for the circumference of the head. Use the size chart below to adjust your size). Join to the first ch with a sl st, ensuring not to twist the chain.
Row 1 Ch 1, 1hdc in each ch (62). Sl st to the 1st st of the round. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2 1hdc each st. Sl st to the 1st st of the round. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3 to 27 (or the required hat length, including a turned-up brim) Repeat round 2.
With the seam (where you joined rounds) at the side, lay the 2 sides of the hat together and sl st through both sets of stitches, picking up the back loop of the side closest to you and the front loop of the one behind. Work all the way along the top, closing over the open edge.
Fasten off leaving a long tail end.
Ears
Use the tail end to stitch diagonally from around 6 sts along down to 6 rows down. Repeat on the other side and ensure all ends are securely sewn in.
Turn up the brim and your cat ears hat is complete!
